Salutations All,

So has anyone been looking at the rumoured chances to WHFB? Why do people think?

I like the look of 8th (not that I have played a game of WHFB for about four or five versions). Less power dice but better spells and random charge distance sound good to me.

I'm witholding judgement until I've had a thorough read of the rules and a game or three, as it looks to be a pretty major overhaul.

Like any chang, there's a mix of good, bad and ... different.

So far I'm pretty happy. I have yet to play a game, but I can't wait to charge more that 6" with my dwarfs!

I would advise players to look to GW Warhammer Articles becuase they have done a recent FAQ section pertaining to all of the armies and the chnages with 8th.

Dwarves look like they are going to be really good with the new rules. Charging half the board and still being able to stop almost all magic spells happening! Very Happy

Some of the magic spells do seem a bit on the powerful side. Take a save or this unit dies and the like. My brother has purchased himself some Lizardmen so I will have a game against him in a couple of weeks.

After reading the rules, I'm putting together a Stone Thrower. It's actually a Stone Giant who the dwarfs have conscripted to throw massive boulders Razz. I can see breath weapons and template weapons becoming important, as every model under the templates will be hit.

Lizards should be fun to play for your brother Marlow. Skink skirmishers who can move and fire with poison should be effective. Stegadon with Thunderstomp and impact hits should be nasty as well. Low initiative in combat could be problematic for Saurus warriors, but the extra attacks and if ranked in a horde could make them tough.

I’m hoping to go to Warhammer World on Friday and play my first game with the new rules. It seems some Wood Elves have a problem with my Dwarfs using their forests to make beer kegs.

Looks like I will field my first dwarf warrior horde (30 models). After making an army list at 2000 I almost ran out of room from the runes. I can see 2000 pts. not being big enough anymore. 2500 or 3000 will be the new norm. Higher army builds equal more models which equals more GW money. Sneaky but I'm not complaining too much as I always loved the look of massed infantry.

If you are spending the extra points on runes GW won't be making any extra cash from that will they?

well i agree with you bungo, but i still like seeing masses of dwarfs on the field.

Post Game results

6 turns of fun was had but it did take us 4 hours. new rules and lots of looking around made for a long game, but i had a great time with tim and his wood elves.

it was a crazy game. the dwarfs were better shots than the wood elves and the effect that killed most of the dwarfs was being pulled back underground.

my grudge thrower landed on top of his general's head who was on a warhawk hiding in the woods and in one turn of shooting 10 thunderers did 2 wounds to the treeman and my bolt thrower with flamming attack did four more wounds. timber!

tim did get off the dwellers bellow spell (cast 18!) off twice with irresistable force. sadly my thane with the battle standard was pulled bellow ground before he saw any action (you would of thought dwarfs would of liked going underground and all). my big horde of 30 warriors went down to 12 models.

his dryads were really nasty as well, but did get charged twice by my hammerers. i did love the distance of charging with my dwarfs.

still trying to work out a few of the rules and we kept finding ouselves resorting to the old rules, but in the end and after a lot of rule searching it went well.

we also rolled off for all of the specific pieces of woods and hills which made the game interesting. after my army is done i might build some dwarf specific game scenery pieces.

anyways, we had a real good time and the new rules were pretty fun to play with.
